Frequently Asked Questions

Formats, structural-member export, customisation, licensing and support.

What file formats does SteelCAM export?
ISO 6983 G-code and DSTV NC1 files, directly from AutoCAD geometry — 3D solids or 2D profile curves. EXPORTNC/EXPORTNC3D work from a picked solid, EXPORTNC2D from selected profile curves.
Is the export output generic, or specific to my setup?
Out of the box, EXPORTNC reads whatever attributes and geometry your blocks already carry, so results vary with how your models are set up. A block with well-defined profile/grade/dimension attributes exports a complete structural-member DSTV file automatically, including detected holes and slots. A plain solid — or a block that doesn't use those attribute names — prompts you for the missing details instead, pre-filled with whatever is available, rather than silently producing an incomplete file. We also offer setup and customisation for your specific block/attribute conventions — get in touch if you'd like an export tailored to how your team already models.
Does SteelCAM detect holes and slots automatically?
When holes/slots are modelled as solids nested inside the same block as the member body, yes — SteelCAM classifies each one from its geometry (round hole vs. slot, position, diameter) and writes it into the DSTV BO block automatically, with no manual marking needed. This depends on how your models are built; if your team uses a different convention (separate 2D markers, a different layer, etc.) we can adapt the detection logic to match it.
Can SteelCAM be customised for our AutoCAD block/attribute standards?
Yes. If your blocks use different attribute tags, a different hole/slot modelling convention, or you need batch export across an entire drawing at once, we can tailor SteelCAM's export logic to match your existing setup rather than asking your team to change how they model.
Which AutoCAD versions does SteelCAM support?
SteelCAM targets AutoCAD 2025 and later, on Windows 10/11 (64-bit).
How does licensing work?
SteelCAM activates per machine with a license key via SteelCAM_LICENSE. License status is checked periodically once activated. Contact support if you need to move your license to a new machine.
Do you provide support after purchase?
Yes — reach out via the contact form or support@steelcam.com.au for setup help, bug reports, or customisation requests.
